Professor Nikolas Martelaro is offering a new course: The AI Augmented Designer

This coming fall, Professor Nikolas (Nik) Martelaro will debut his new course, The AI Augmented Designer. The course teaches designers how to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support and accelerate their design processes. Here are the basics:

I recently spoke with Nik to discuss his motivations for creating the course, the value of AI augmentation for designers, and what a student should expect from the course. Read our interview below!

What inspired the course?

Nik and his team at the Augmented Design Capability Studio have spent the past several years researching and developing tools & methods to utilize AI in their design work.

I think that [AI augmentation] has a lot of promise and opportunity to improve the work that we do… the main inspiration is the fact that AI is becoming a lot more prevalent, and the tools are starting to become more usable by a lot of people, and it's exciting to see how designers are trying to use it.

From his experiences, AI tools can help throughout the design process by:
